Juniper Publishers - Control Seawater Intake Biofouling

Image
Oceanography & Fisheries Open Access Journal Abstract Increasingly, we resort to taking in seawater for desalination, cooling, or both. Sometimes there are problems of biofouling of the intake system: at the intake screens, or in the pipeline, and / or at the onshore end of the pipeline where the flow is usually pumped up to a plant for cooling or desalination. Biofouling control measures that may be considered include screens at the offshore end of the intake pipe system; air backwash of those screens; at the offshore end of the intake system; chemical dosing of the intake pipe wall; excavation of biomass collected at the shore end of the intake system; use of a shorter intake pipeline, even though the water quality nearer shore may be inferior to that found farther and deeper from shore. Keywords: Biofouling; Mollusks; Jellyfish; Seawater intakes; Retrofit Introduction Increasingly, we resort to taking in sea...

Underwater Acoustic Modem- Challenges, Technology and Applications - A Review Survey- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers -  Journal of Oceanography Abstract Today, underwater acoustic communication is developing for its various applications. For signal transmission in underwater using ocean/ sea/lakes/rivers as a medium an appropriate underwater acoustic system is required. The significant characteristic of ocean makes the underwater communication difficult using electromagnetic waves. The characteristics of an acoustic signal make a good candidate for data transfer in underwater. The underwater communication is furthermore challenging due to factors like reverberation, attenuation, scattering and sea characteristics, etc., apart from various sources of ambient noises due to natural and man made. Thus, an underwater acoustic modem plays a vital role for long distance signal transmission in underwater. Hence, it is important to study the various types of underwater acoustic modems. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of recent deve...
