Characterization of Teatina Coast Marine Habitats (Central Adriatic Sea) toward an Integrated Coastal Management- Juniper Publishers

  Juniper Publishers -  Journal of Oceanography Abstract The Adriatic Sea represents a vulnerable ecosystem and need an Integrated Coastal Management to protect, conserve and manage the coastal and marine areas. This preliminary work proposes a local case study aimed to the characterization of coastal marine habitats along Teatina coast (Abruzzo, central Italy), carrying out 11 transects parallel to the coastline. Moreover, the presence of sea turtles and cetaceans has been estimated by the analysis of specimens stranded and included in the GeoCETUS database of Centro Studi Cetacei onlus. The results show that the study area has a considerable marine biodiversity and a sustainable management is urgent for preserving the habitats and associated species. Channel Form Prediction of Chinda Creek: A Critical Factor to Sustainable Management of Flood Disaster in Port Harcourt, Niger Delta Nigeria- Juniper publishers

Juniper Publishers -  Journal of Oceanography Abstract Flooding have been identified by different scholars as a major challenge facing communities, hence this study examines the role of water bodies in the control and management of flood. The study was conducted in Chinda Creek in Ogbogoro section of the New Calabar River, Niger Delta Nigeria. Measurement of study variables was done, this was to identify the influence of velocity, sediment yield, depth and discharge on channel morphology. The channel length measured 643.275m and was divided into 30 sample points were measurement of the study variables were taken. The result from the correlation revealed that channel morphology of Chinda Creek is significantly correlated with discharge and depth. Nevertheless, it has positive correlation with velocity, bed load and suspended sediment load but their correlation were not significant. Juniper Publishers -  Journal of Oceanography Abstract Syngnathus abaster  is a pipefish whose distribution is commonly referred as encompassing the Mediterranean and Black Sea, as well as the Atlantic Coast northwards up to the Bay of Biscay. Given the species ability to endure large variation in water salinity, this euryhaline pipefish may now be encountered in a wider variety of aquatic environments, not only marine or brackish but also in purely freshwater habitats. During the last decades, information on the biology of the black-striped pipefish grew, and new data emerged. As this information derives from populations that are geographically distant, it is important to review the available data across the distribution in order to understand the more general processes occurring.
