Mapping the Different Planktonic Groups at One of the Egyptian Bays along Mediterranean Coast- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers -  Journal of Oceanography Abstract The abundance and community composition of zooplankton is spatially and temporally variable so it requires sampling over space and time. Quantitative assessment of biomass, community composition, and abundance is sensitive for sampling methodology, including the location and seasonal timing of sampling, as well as mesh size and gear type. Therefore, repeated and consistent sampling is essential to determine the changes in zooplankton distribution, abundance, community composition and seasonal timing at time scales that have impacts on higher trophic levels. In the present study, El-Mex Bay is highly diversified (204 forms) but low standing crop (annual average 8935 organisms/m 3 ). Using GIS and the other mapping applications give an easy and clear image about the distribution of aquatic fauna especially microscopic forms which help in understanding the dynamic of biological ecosystem. The Toxigenic Cyanobacterium Microcystis Aeruginosa in Epicontinental Waters of Mexico- Juniper Publishers

Juniper Publishers -  Journal of Oceanography Opinion Different climate models have concluded that the average global temperature has increased in the last century [ 1 ]. This change in global temperature has influenced climate conditions worldwide affecting population dynamics (e.g. phytoplankton communities) in ecosystems in different ways [ 1 - 3 ]. In terms of aquatic ecosystems, evidence has shown that some photo synthetic microorganisms may adapt and thrive successfully under warmer climatic conditions, while other cannot [ 4 ]. The toxigenic cyanobacterium  Microcystis aeruginosa  (Kutzing) Kutzing 1846 is a gram-negative photosynthetic prokaryote adapted to a wide range of environmental conditions in mesotrophic and eutrophic aquatic ecosystems [ 5 ]. The main family of toxins synthetized by  M. aeruginosa  are microcystins (hepatotoxins); in nature, more than 90 microcystin congeners are known [ 6 ]. Microcystins are water-soluble and stable molecules in aquatic and terrestr

Assessment of Centurial Extreme Coastal Climate of Bethioua Algeria- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers -  Journal of Oceanography Abstract Nearshore marine climate at the Port of Bethioua, located on the west of Algeria, were studied using real-time field data and climatological offshore data obtained from the UK Met Office. Total waves, swells in the offshore are hind-casted separately and were validated using buoy measurements were supplied by UKMO at a nominal cost. Shallow water wave transformations are modelled using the Teluray wave-current model to calculate shoaling, depth refraction and current refraction taking bathymetry and tidal flows from the TELEMAC flow model as inputs. The results are of particular importance in the context of planning of port and safe anchorage and movement and anchoring of vessels in the harbour area, in addition, for future developmental programs at the port of Bethioua. Go to Introduction Waves are of varied forms, frequencies and directions. To arrive at their climatological picture has always been a challenge to harbour engine
